- Blocks the PDE5 enzyme, increasing blood flow in erectile tissue in response to sexual stimulation.
- Key risks
- Headache, flushing, nasal congestion, visual changes; rare priapism; sudden vision or hearing changes warrant urgent evaluation.
- Who should not use it
- Concurrent nitrate therapy; certain cardiovascular conditions where sexual activity is inadvisable.
- Drug interactions
- Dangerous drop in blood pressure with nitrates and some alpha-blockers; levels affected by CYP3A4 inhibitors.
